Lesbian and Gay Archives of New Zealand
Te Pūranga Takatāpui o Aotearoa

The Archives are owned by a Trust and housed in the Alexander Turnbull Library of the National Library of New Zealand, Wellington.

We collect, preserve and make available for research the records and personal papers of LGBTTIFQ people and organisations in New Zealand. LGBTTIFQ means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, takatāpui, fa'afafine, intersex or queer and includes any same-sex attracted, transgender or intersex members of any indigenous community of the Pacific.

COVID-19: Access to LAGANZ collections has returned to normal at Level 1. More details.

  • Activities range from working bees on collections, outreach activities, helping at events, and supporting our digitisation and metadata initiatives. Some of these you can do at home.

Discover our Poster Index Cards Digitisation project. We used a fun online tool to correct the text from scanned pictures of 700 index cards describing our poster collection. And we now have funding support from the Rainbow Welbeing Legacy Fund to continue digitising and transcribing the remaining 7500 index cards in our catalogue. More details soon!
