Friends of Kawe Mahara Queer Archives Aotearoa
Become a Friend of Kawe MaharaKawe Mahara's Board of Trustees has set up a nationwide network of supporters known as Friends of Kawe Mahara. Friends can help ensure close ties between the Archives and the communities it serves, and provide a stable base of financial support for ongoing growth of the collections. Friends receive occasional e-newsletters alerting them to Kawe Mahara's activities, including community events involving the Archives and our volunteer activities. There are two types of membership of the Friends of Kawe Mahara:
The Friends' subscription each 1 July to 30 June financial year is:
Friends membership subscriptions are not tax deductible, but as the Kawe Mahara Queer Archives Aotearoa Trust has charitable status all donations are tax deductible. Consider Making a DonationKawe Mahara faces storage costs of $460/month for secure offsite storage for large deposits of community organisations' material that are awaiting processing. Recent large acquisitions include material from Out Takes: A Reel Queer Film Festival and the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Operating costs such as storage do not fit the criteria for many funders of community and heritage sector projects or groups, so we depend on donations to cover these. We are also embarking on a programme to commission an online digital archive platform, that will enable us to collect, manage and offer online access to digitised items in our collections. We have plans to apply for funding from various sources over the next two- to three- years, but donations towards our fund will enable to us to seed fund important preparatory work. Ways to DonateThe Board is mindful to support donors to make payments easily and to offer receipts as promptly as possible. These options work well:
Kawe Mahara Bank AccountOur bank account is with BNZ. Account number: 020500-0899403-00 Our ReceiptsOur receipts for payments made directly to Kawe Mahara will be sent in the post and also emailed to you as a scanned PDF (for ease of uploading to your MyIR account online). They will include the full name of the Trust, our Charities number CC27707, IRD number 052-782-791 and will itemise your donation(s) for the period and Friends membership (if you join/renew) separately. Receipts will be signed by the Treasurer or the Secretary of the Trust. We do not send receipts for payments that are solely Friends subscriptions as these are not tax deductible. If you donate to Kawe Mahara projects through crowdfunding platforms the receipt will be from whichever charitable organisation runs the platform and distributes the funds to Kawe Mahara. Kawe Mahara's Annual Givealittle CampaignKawe Mahara runs an annual campaign in Givealittle - see Givealittle: Help Preserve Rainbow History - which aims to raise awareness of Kawe Mahara's activities and its operating expenses, particularly secure storage, in the wider community. (That is, outside of our existing core of generous Friends of Kawe Mahara). Our target in the new financial year running from July 2022 to June 2023 is $6,351.
