Objects of the Kawe Mahara Queer Archives Aotearoa TrustThe Board of LAGANZ recently adopted a new name for the Trust - Kawe Mahara Queer Archives Aotearoa Trust and has recentlty amended the Trust's Constitution. Kawe Mahara's Board of Trustees, the curators appointed by the trustees and members of Friends of Kawe Mahara agree to support these objects set out in section 5.1 of the Trust's Constitution, updated 13 May 2024. 2. He Mihi: Acknowledgements 2.1 The Trust acknowledges the iwi of Taranaki Whānui, Te Ātiawa and Ngāti Toa Rangatira on whose whenua the collections currently reside, within the Alexander Turnbull Library in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa, Papatūānuku. 2.2 The Trust acknowledges Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa, and Aotearoa's responsibilities to tagata Moana, the Indigenous peoples of the Moana in which we live. 2.3 The Trust acknowledges our whakapapa, the mana and the mahi of our tūpuna who have enabled our lives and our mahi to continue. The Trust follows in the footsteps of all those who established, developed, preserved and donated to the collections since their inception. In 1977 the National Gay Rights Coalition created their Resource Centre. In 1981 this became an autonomous collective named the Lesbian and Gay Rights Resource Centre, which was constituted as the Lesbian and Gay Archives of New Zealand (LAGANZ) in 1992. 2.4 The Trust acknowledges that because of this whakapapa, some queer communities are not represented well or at all. That includes, but is not limited to, trans, non-binary, intersex, bisexual and asexual people and their communities and organisations. 2.5 The Trust acknowledges the limits of Western labels and languages for our identities, so we assert the term 'queer' to be radically inclusive of everyone in our communities. That includes the many cultural terms used by Māori, across the Pacific, and by migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking communities. We note the term queer was historically used against us, so we acknowledge that some people, particularly elders, may still find this reclamation difficult. 5. Ngā Kaupapa: Objects of Kawe Mahara 5.1 The Kaupapa of the Trust shall be such charitable purposes according to the law of Aotearoa New Zealand as the Board shall think fit and in particular, and by way of illustration, but not by way of limitation of such general charitable purposes the following (but only to the extent that such particular Kaupapa are charitable as aforesaid):
